Since 2020, Love Out Loud’s Transformation Luncheon has brought together business, civic, and community leaders—people like you who care about building a stronger, more connected community. Each year, around 300 leaders from across sectors come together to build trust, form meaningful connections, and mobilize people and resources to drive authentic change.

Dr. David Docusen

Dr. David Docusen is the founder and CEO of The Neighborliness Center in Winston Salem, NC. His work includes creating equitable access to education, economic development, housing, and healthcare. He is the board president for Habitat for Humanity (Forsyth County) and advocates in various ways for holistic community engagement, both locally and nationally. David is the author of multiple books, including Neighborliness: Love Like Jesus. Cross Dividing Lines. Transform Your Community. He lives in Washington Park with his wife, Dara, and their four children.
Brajan Funes

Brajan Funes, born in Honduras, immigrated to the US at age four after Hurricane Mitch devastated his country. After graduating from Reagan High School in 2014, he moved to San Francisco, where he started his career in banking at J.P. Morgan Chase.
In 2022, Brajan became an Investment Manager at Wells Fargo specializing in portfolio management of nonprofits and charitable trusts. He co-owns Orkidea Creative Agency and founded the Winston Salem Pickup Association, a recreational soccer league that creates welcoming spaces for people of all backgrounds, skill levels and ages. He currently attends Forsyth Technical Community College studying for his Associates of Arts to study Economics and Public Administration. While in school, he serves on the NC Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association board. Brajan has also volunteered with numerous local nonprofits including Love Out Loud, Hispanic League, Forsyth Tech Foundation and Senior Services.
Elaine Summerfield

Elaine Summerfield is the Vice President of Community Investment at The Winston-Salem Foundation. Elaine provides strategic direction to advance partnerships and link resources to action in Forsyth County. She leads the Community Investment team, which supports nonprofits, students, and teachers through grant making and scholarship support.
Elaine has over 20 years of experience working in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, including multiple roles with the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond and the Virginia Health Care Foundation. She also provided philanthropic advice to family office clients at Heritage Wealth Advisors.
Elaine has also served in a variety of community leadership roles, including co-founder of HandsOn Greater Richmond, and as a radio talk show creator and host for Inspire InDeed on WRIR 97.3FM, where she interviewed local changemakers to highlight issues and inspire listeners to get involved. Elaine earned her Master’s in Public Administration from Portland State University and is a 21/64 certified advisor.
Rev. Nathan Scovens

Reverend Dr. Nathan Edward Scovens, Sr. is the spirited, gifted and anointed Pastor and Teacher of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Scovens and his beautiful wife of 29 years, Wyvondalynn (Von) Gilchrist Scovens, are the proud parents of two amazing sons Nathan, II and Joshua. He is a courageous, dynamic, and visionary leader who hails from Baltimore, Maryland, grew up in one of the toughest communities of Charm City. Growing up in the inner city helped cultivate and mold him for a ministry defined by taking risks, defying the odds and overcoming obstacles. Dr. Scovens has been serving as the fifth Pastor of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church since 2007. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Elizabeth City State University, NC, and a Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Divinity from Jacksonville Theological Seminary, Jacksonville, FL.
Dr. Scovens preaches, teaches and unequivocally believes that we’ve been blessed to be a blessing. His altruistic spirit has become infectious in the ministry of GMBC. Being a strong advocate for missions and reaching “beyond the walls” of Galilee, Dr. Scovens has widened the scope of Galilee’s ministries to include a local, national and global impact. Consequently, Galilee participates and supports mission and outreach initiatives throughout the United States, within the Winston-Salem Community, Guyana, Liberia, Sudan and South Africa. Bi-Annually he also has led several delegations to the Holy Land of Israel for Spiritual Renewal Pilgrimages.
Serving and caring for people is not just a philosophy, but a standard for living and joy for Dr. Scovens. Currently he serves as a Chaplain for the Winston-Salem Police Department, serves on the Board of Directors for Family Services, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department Resident Health and Wellness Council, General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Ecclesiastical Advisory Council for Triad Pastors Network for Wake Forest, Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity, and a Greensboro Housing Authority Hearing Officer.
